Fantastic, some of the best racing we've seen for years. Oli had a tight battle with Wilkinson, it was real seat of the pants stuff, I've never seen a rider look so disappointed as Wilko did as he crossed the line seconds behind Oli. Jenny C upped her game once more and took her 3rd win, contender Hunt was not on form, following a crash the day before, which was disappointing for both Amy and spectators, but Jen showed why she's our top woman.
Bibby took the espoirs, with Ross Creber taking a stunning 2nd after a mechanical on the first climb catapulted him from leader to last position within seconds, leaving him with a limited selection of gears. He had to fight his way back through the field to get that excellent result. Who knows what would have happened if he hadn't have had the mechanical.
Masters Men & Women were surprises - Sam Gardner taking time out from his Xterra racing to grab his first National jersey and Michelle Roberts ( Bergstrand) took the women's in her 3rd mountain race of the year. Paul Hinton (vets)also took his first ever national jersey after 20 years of racing.
Junior men's was a real toss up with 5 hot contenders, my money was on Dave Fletcher and I won, he's a hot tip for the future of the sport. Annie Last was favourite to take the women's junior race, but a nasty fall on the last lap left her with a banging headache as she limped home behind team mate Annabel Simpson.
Pretty good turn out considering that about a 3rd of the field probably didn't make it cos of the floods, but none of the main contenders were missing. It was a cracking race on a real course. XC racing just gets better, looking forward to see how the guys and girls get on at Fort Bill! We've got some great potential coming through at the mo.
