Midlands XC R3  - The Champs – Sherwood Pines

The final round of the Midlands XC series, saw hundreds of riders congregate in Sherwood Forest to decide the overall series outcome, champions of the Midlands and of course the outcome of each individual category itself, and there wasn’t even a hint of green tights in the proceedings but plenty of ‘merry’ men (and quite a few happy women too!).

Over the years Sherwood Pines has proved itself time and time again to be a popular venue for riders, providing mile upon mile of swoopy singletrack, tight, twisty trails threaded through closely packed trees, interspersed with fast fire roads and a couple of soul sapping drags, flat it may seem at first sight but ask any rider after a race and they’ll soon tell you it’s not a pushover of a course!

Of the masses of terrain on offer a carefully selected 11km loop was picked out in eye catching red & white stripy tape, so there should be no lost riders or indecision at the myriad of tempting singletrack that makes up a maze of trails throughout the forest.

The weather gods smiled, and a humid but dry day was a welcome bonus for the competitors, especially those that braved the wet conditions encountered at R2 in Cannock.

Dry and dusty was the order of the day!
